The "Terraced Vineyards of the Rhaetian side of Valtellina" have obtained the recognition of Historical Rural Landscape and the consequent inscription in the National Register of Historical Rural Landscapes.
The terraced vineyard landscape, with its history and tradition, has achieved the prestigious recognition at the end of a long process that has seen Provinea Foundation promoter of this project.
The positive result was announced today, at the end of the convocation of the National Observatory of Rural Landscape at the Ministry of Agriculture. In audio-videoconference, in compliance with current rules, the President Cristina Scarpellini illustrated to the prestigious commission, chaired by the Minister of Agriculture Teresa Bellanova, the strengths, historicity and beauty of a unique territory like Valtellina.
"A very important goal has been reached - said Dr. Scarpellini - which required a scrupulous and demanding work for the drafting of the dossier. In fact, the Ministry is responsible for identifying and cataloging in the Register the traditional rural landscapes or those of historical interest, practices and related traditional knowledge, defining their significance, integrity and vulnerability, taking into account both scientific assessments and the values that are attributed to them by the communities, subjects and populations concerned. The hope is that this recognition is another important piece, after the inclusion of "the Art of Drywall Construction" as a UNESCO Intangible Heritage, to safeguard a system with a strong identity, social, hydrogeological and economic value".
President, thanks all the people and institutions that have supported and collaborated to this candidacy, in particular, the Provincia di Sondrio, Consorzio di Tutela Vini di Valtellina, Fondazione di Sviluppo Locale, Fondazione Fojanini.
